Yongan Construction Group Ltd. construction company with limited experience in mixed development let alone a tier one project was the client pursuing a prominent site across from Chengdu’s new Exhibition Center.
Winning the project through an international competition, we started a long and onerous year of reworking the design; very typical process in China and to some degree elsewhere.
Remained after countless design revisions through collective work vs. collaborative work was a mismatch of instances. Facing a very probable permit rejection by the local municipality, I asked for a scraping the design and redesigning within a three week period prior to the submission hoping that the schedule intensity help retaining the premises of the project.
To create fabric for the city avoiding monumental design vision of the client was necessary. We delivered a fully re-designed scheme which was very well received by the city. Immune from the frequent modifications on the client’s side, the new scheme maintained its integrity throughout the site.
